Help Cancer Patients Pay for Travel Expenses!

Help save the lives of Yulia and her unborn child!

Yulia is a young woman from a Siberian city of Barnaul. After graduating from college she worked at politology department of a local university. But in January 2015 she started having pelvic pains. After seeing several specialists and having numerous tests that stretched for several months, she was discovered to have a mailignant tumor in her pelvis. However, the local oncologists lacked experience and equipment to perform necessary surgery. Yulia was referred to a federal cancer center in Moscow. In July 2015 she was finally operated. The surgery was very extensive and lasted 11 hours. Some of the nerves on Yulia's right leg were affected, and she now has to walk with support. Unfortunately, a few months after the surgery the cancer returned and metastasized to Yulia's spine. At that point none of the hospitals in Russia agreed to admit Yulia. She managed to travel to Germany where she is currently receiving chemotherapy, which needs to be followed by highly accurate proton radiation treatment. Recently, Yulia discovered that she is in the early stages of pregnancy. She was happy to hear the news, but concerned for her unborn child. At this time, she has to rely entirely on help of her friends and the kindness of strangers to pay for her treatment, childbirth expenses, and lodging in Germany. Our project will transfer the funds raised in March for Yulia's living expenses, and we will greatly appreciate your support.

Help Anastasia stay on treatment!

In our last report, we told you about Marina from Moscow who travels to Italy for melanoma clinical trial. Thanks to your support, she continues accessing life-saving therapy. Marina is very grateful for the support she received and sends her sincere thanks.

Recently, we have also started fundraising for 17-year-old Anastasia from Ukraine. Anastasia was planning to become a doctor and, according to her teachers, she had a good chance to get a high score at entrance exams. Sadly, disease shattered her dreams. Right after graduating from high school in May 2015, she got very sick. Suspected pneumonia was only a symptom of the underlying disease, T-cell lymphoblastic lymphoma. Due to relative rarity of this disease, Anastasia could not access proper therapy in Ukraine and needed to travel to Israel. The treatment is expected to last 6-8 months. Anastasia's mom is a single parent, and it is very hard for her to raise funds for the treatment and lodging in a foreign country.

We receive requests from patients like Marina and Anastasia very often, and a steady flow of donations is the best way to ensure that help is provided to everyone who applies, no matter the season. GlobalGiving is currently offering a promotion - a match of one month's donation - on all recurring monthly donations of $200 or less! Multiply the good!

This Wednesday, the last Bonus day of the year will offer a great opportunity to multiply your impact on someone's life. It may be a child or an adult with cancer from a country far away. Most likely, you will never get to meet them. Still, your gift could be that crucial tipping point that makes all the difference in their lives.

Consider the case of our patient, Marina K. from Moscow. Two years ago, she was told that her melanoma became metastatic and there is no treatment that would help her. Luckily, a new medication that modulated immune system began clinical trials in European and American clinics at about the same time. Marina was able to enroll in the study in Italy, and even though it required her to travel back and forth every two weeks, there was simply no other choice that offered any hope.

Then another tragedy struck. Ten months into treatment, Marina's husband passed away. She was left alone, without any income, and about a year more to go on her study. Marina had to apply for help with charities. There aren't many charities supporting adults in Russia, and hardly any help patients who have to travel abroad. We were the only one with the programs that support patients like Marina. Thanks to donors like you, we were able to help Marina with the costs of travel and lodging. She is still remaining on the study. In a few months, Marina is expected to complete her participation and we are very hopeful that she will be in a long-term remission from cancer.
