Susana is seven years old and has Down syndrome, is attending the Awakenings Program in the initial level, this program includes speech therapy, functional rehabilitation of disability (special education), hydrotherapy and physical therapy.
In speech therapy her sessions are focused to learn adverbs of place with concrete material, songs and worksheets in order to optimize speech skills and spatial location. Susana participates in activities identificating up, down, behind, in front of. Also personal pronouns (you – us) were worked through songs. Susana should optimize speech motor skills through conducting activities focused on the issue of the phonemes S and T.
In rehabilitation area, activities were made to favor the following of instructions, to encourage writing processes and identify the vowel E. During the activities Susana enjoyed and did them properly, she is improving her behavior.
Physiotherapy activities were focused to improve concentration and attention through group activities in order to follow orders favoring leisure and everyday activities.
Susana loves hydrotherapy, manages to execute limb movements against resistance water; face diving, she properly do everything proposed during the therapy.
Susana is also attending pre-school and enjoys every activity.
