Restoring Hope with 3D Prosthetic Limbs

By AGIZO | Cordinator

Dear Friends,

Every act of generosity begins with hope. Thanks to your compassion and the continued partnership of GlobalGiving, we are taking the first important steps toward restoring mobility, independence, and dignity for people living with disabilities in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo.

Although our project is still in its preparation phase, the encouragement we have already received reminds us that lasting change is built one supporter at a time. We are deeply grateful to everyone who has chosen to stand with us.

The Humanitarian Context

For decades, conflict in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo has left thousands of women, men, and children living with amputations caused by armed violence, landmines, accidents, and untreated medical conditions. Many survivors face daily barriers that go far beyond physical injury. Without access to affordable prosthetic limbs or rehabilitation services, they often lose educational opportunities, employment, independence, and hope for the future.

Families also carry this burden, struggling to provide care while facing increasing economic hardship. For many communities in Goma and Bukavu, specialized orthopedic services remain out of reach.

INUKA Relief was created to change this reality by making modern, affordable prosthetic care available where it is needed most.

Our Goal

This project aims to restore mobility through custom-made 3D-printed prosthetic limbs combined with professional rehabilitation services.

By introducing innovative scanning and 3D-printing technology locally, we will provide high-quality prosthetic limbs at a fraction of the traditional cost while strengthening local capacity in orthopedic care.

Our vision extends beyond mobility. We want children to return to school, adults to regain their livelihoods, and families to rebuild their futures with confidence and dignity.

Progress to Date

We are pleased to share that the project has officially entered its preparation stage.

Current activities include:

  • Identifying and recruiting qualified trainers with expertise in 3D prosthetic design, manufacturing, and rehabilitation.
  • Selecting future trainees who will become part of our local prosthetics production team.
  • Preparing the operational framework for the launch of the INUKA Prosthetics Center.
  • Strengthening partnerships that will support successful project implementation.

Project implementation is scheduled to begin in November 2025, marking the start of a transformative initiative for people with disabilities across Goma and Bukavu.

Although these early activities often happen behind the scenes, they are essential for ensuring that the project begins on a strong and sustainable foundation.

Funding Update

The total project budget is US$95,000.

To date, we have received US$22 in donations.

While this is only the beginning, every contribution demonstrates confidence in our mission. Early support helps build momentum and encourages additional donors to invest in this life-changing initiative.

With the continued partnership of GlobalGiving and the generosity of compassionate supporters around the world, we are confident that we can mobilize the resources needed to achieve our goal and bring this project to life.

How Contributions Will Be Used

As additional funding becomes available, resources will support the establishment and operation of our local prosthetics program, including:

  • Essential 3D prosthetic production equipment and materials.
  • Capacity building for local technicians and rehabilitation staff.
  • Patient assessment and personalized prosthetic design.
  • Physical rehabilitation and follow-up care.
  • Community outreach to identify vulnerable beneficiaries.

Every donation directly contributes to restoring mobility and creating long-term opportunities for people living with disabilities.

Expected Impact

Once fully implemented, this project will transform lives by:

  • Providing affordable, custom-made prosthetic limbs to vulnerable amputees.
  • Restoring mobility, confidence, and independence.
  • Helping children safely return to school.
  • Supporting adults in rebuilding sustainable livelihoods.
  • Reducing social exclusion and stigma.
  • Strengthening local expertise in orthopedic rehabilitation.
  • Creating lasting employment opportunities through local production.

Beyond individual beneficiaries, the project will strengthen communities by proving that disability should never prevent someone from participating fully in society.

Looking Ahead

The coming months will focus on completing staff recruitment, finalizing technical preparations, and launching project activities in November 2025.

As implementation begins, we look forward to sharing stories of resilience, recovery, and transformation made possible by supporters like you.

Together, we are not only producing prosthetic limbs—we are helping people stand again, reclaim their independence, and rebuild their futures.

Thank You

To every donor who has contributed to this project, thank you for believing that every person deserves the opportunity to walk with dignity.

We extend our sincere appreciation to GlobalGiving for providing a trusted platform that connects our work with compassionate people around the world. This partnership gives our organization the opportunity to reach more supporters and bring hope to communities that need it most.

Your confidence in our mission inspires us to continue working toward a future where no amputee is left behind simply because they cannot afford a prosthetic limb.

A Call to Action

Today, thousands of people in eastern Congo are still waiting for the chance to walk again.

Your support can help transform that hope into reality.

Whether your contribution is large or small, it brings us one step closer to opening our 3D prosthetics program and restoring independence to children, women, and men who have already endured unimaginable hardship.

Please share this project with your family, friends, and professional networks. Together, we can expand our impact, restore dignity, and give hundreds of people the opportunity to rebuild their lives.

Thank you for standing with INUKA Relief. Together—with your generosity and the continued partnership of GlobalGiving—we believe this vision will become reality.
