Standing with Earthquake Survivors
Earthquakes can leave lasting effects that extend far beyond damaged buildings and disrupted infrastructure. Survivors may experience grief, fear, anxiety, emotional distress, and uncertainty about their future. Children, older adults, people with disabilities, and families who have lost their homes or sense of security can face particularly difficult recovery journeys.
In La Guaira, Venezuela, the humanitarian needs of earthquake-affected communities include access to healthcare, safe shelter, clean water, sanitation, hygiene supplies, and mental health and psychosocial support. These needs make a coordinated, compassionate response essential.
Sanash Welfare Foundation believes that emergency assistance must address both the immediate physical needs of survivors and the emotional impact of disaster.
Psychosocial Support Has Begun Through Collaboration with EMT
We are pleased to share an important development in our response: Sanash Welfare Foundation is working in close collaboration with an Emergency Medical Team (EMT), and psychosocial support activities for the affected population have already started.
This collaboration reflects our commitment to helping survivors cope with the emotional and psychological challenges associated with the earthquake. Psychosocial support can help people express their concerns, strengthen coping strategies, reconnect with available support networks, and begin the process of recovery with dignity.
Our approach places affected people at the centre of the response, with sensitivity to individual circumstances, privacy, safety, and the particular needs of vulnerable groups.
We recognize that recovery is not only about rebuilding homes and restoring services. It is also about helping people regain a sense of safety, connection, and hope.
Our Partnership and Interim Financial Arrangements
To enable psychosocial support activities to begin without waiting for the full collection of project funding, EMT is currently bearing the related expenses.
Sanash Welfare Foundation intends to reimburse EMT for eligible expenses incurred on behalf of the project once sufficient project-funded amounts have been collected and are available for this purpose, subject to applicable financial controls, documentation, and project requirements.
This interim arrangement reflects a shared commitment to supporting earthquake-affected people while fundraising continues. It also makes donor support particularly important: contributions can help strengthen the financial resources available to sustain the response and settle documented project-related costs.
We will maintain appropriate records of expenses and reimbursement arrangements to support accountability and transparent reporting.
Why Your Support Matters Now
Our GlobalGiving campaign aims to mobilize US$1 million to support earthquake survivors in La Guaira. The wider programme is designed to help vulnerable families through emergency assistance, including:
Psychosocial support is already underway through our collaboration with EMT. Other components of the wider programme remain dependent on available funding, implementation arrangements, and the needs identified through the response. We will report on these activities as they progress.
Help Us Sustain This Response
Every earthquake survivor deserves the opportunity to recover with dignity. However, local humanitarian responders cannot sustain essential activities without adequate resources.
Your contribution can help us maintain the momentum of psychosocial support, meet eligible response costs, and work toward expanding assistance to more affected families. Continued fundraising is essential to strengthening the resources available for this work.
We invite individuals, charitable foundations, businesses, diaspora communities, and humanitarian supporters worldwide to stand with the people of La Guaira.
Please donate, share our appeal, and help us reach people who may be able to support this response.
Our Commitment to Transparency
Sanash Welfare Foundation is committed to responsible humanitarian action, collaboration with response partners, and transparent communication with our donors.
We will continue to distinguish between activities already initiated and interventions planned for the wider project. We will also document eligible costs and reimbursements associated with the EMT collaboration and provide updates as further funding becomes available and activities progress.
We are grateful to everyone who has contributed, shared our appeal, or encouraged this work. Your support helps sustain a compassionate response to people facing the difficult aftermath of an earthquake.
Together, we can help survivors find strength, rebuild hope, and move toward recovery.
