To our generous Friends & Supporters,
After a brisk winter season with some fun in the snow, the animal residents at Keepers of the Wild are beginning to enjoy a beautiful Spring season!
With the warmer weather comes the ability to safely transport animals in need of a new forever home, and we have plans to welcome four new black bears and two tigers to the sanctuary in May! We can’t wait to share the news and photos of their arrival with you!
You may remember BamBam, our very first bear resident at the sanctuary...
BamBam was just a young grizzly bear who had been trained and used for a traveling roadside attraction show. Her owner was offered a job in the city in another state and bringing BamBam along was not part of the new deal. Her owner searched for months for a new home for little BamBam, but nobody was willing to take in a grizzly bear. Months of rejection led to a tragic fate for BamBam...She was scheduled to be euthanized.
Keepers of the Wild’s founder and executive director, Jonathan Kraft, heard about the little bear’s plight and immediately jumped into action to save her. BamBam was rescued two days before her scheduled demise and was brought to the sanctuary to live out her life naturally in our caring, accredited animal sanctuary.
BamBam went from being “The Bear Nobody Wanted” to being a spoiled, happy bear that has access to top nutrition, medical care, a large natural habitat with a huge private pool, lounging hammocks, and daily “room service”! We wish all displaced animals could have a happy conclusion like BamBam, but unfortunately, not all do. Keepers of the Wild nature park and wildlife sanctuary works hard to create happy lives for animals who have previously endured abuse, neglect, exploitation, injury, or impending demise.
BamBam’s story became the first of many bear rescues Keepers of the Wild has become involved with. Because bears are notoriously expensive to care for, difficult to safely contain, and require different safety protocols from the USDA and local Game and Fish Authorities, many sanctuaries are not interested in taking in bears. At Keepers, we have rescued a total of 7 bears and now we have 4 more on the way! We believe bears are every bit as important to provide a life-long home to as any other species and are happy to take in bears whenever we are able.
With your continued support, Keepers of the Wild can continue to rescue, rehabilitate, and care for bears and other wildlife in need when the occasion arises. Keepers of the Wild receives no government funding and relies upon the generous donations of our supporters to continue our mission of protecting and caring for animals like BamBam and the hundreds of animals we have rescued since 1995.
Thank you for all that you do for animals, and for believing in Keepers of the Wild. We and the animals wish you a happy Spring season and will be in touch to share the arrival of our new residents soon!
