Summary

Floods in Ibaji and Lokoja have displaced thousands of families, destroying homes, farms, and livelihoods. This project will provide emergency food, clean water, shelter, medical care, and psychosocial support. We'll also assist with small cash help and long-term recovery plans to help families rebuild. Over 170,000 people were displaced in Ibaji alone, and over 1.4 million affected in Lokoja. This is a yearly occurrence and may double in the 2025 rainy season.

Challenge

Every year, floods hit Ibaji and Lokoja, destroying homes, farms, schools, and clinics. Lokoja is a confluence city where River Niger and River Benue meet, and the same river flows through Idah to Ibaji and into Anambra State. This path makes the flooding worse in these areas. Thousands lose everything and are forced to live in overcrowded shelters or open spaces. With 2025 rains expected to be worse, the danger is even higher.

Solution

This project will provide urgent support to flood victims in Ibaji and Lokoja. We'll give families food, clean water, shelter, and medical care to help them survive the crisis. Trained staff and volunteers will also offer mental health support, small cash help, and basic recovery items. In the long run, we'll work with the community to build safer homes, restart farming, and prepare better for future floods.

Long-Term Impact

This project can help families in Ibaji and Lokoja recover faster and rebuild stronger after the floods. By supporting small farming, safer housing, and early warning systems, we can reduce the damage in future floods. We'll also offer educational training on flood prevention and management to help the community become more prepared. This will ensure they are less dependent on emergency help every year and better equipped to handle future disasters.
