This Report, like many of the others, gives an overview of the energy our Work has generated to lift suffering from the Animal Realm.

Also, in this one, I want to share with you an exchange I had with Vishwa that was so deeply moving, I could barely talk when it was over.

OUR STATS SINCE OPENING - JANUARY 2007 THRU MARCH 31, 2022 (Please note that the year is 2022, not 2023. It is very, very time consuming to keep cumulative stats. These times are profoundly busy, so we offer these figures to give a good sense of the level at which we operate.)

• Clinic Visits............................78,559
• In-Patient Treatments..........214,595
• Anti-Rabies Injections...........20,309
• Emergency Rescues...............8.094
• Dogs Sterilized ........................8,687
• Animal Adoptions....................1,447
• Non-dogs Treated....................9,058 (Included in "Non Dogs Treated" are 2,839 cows & calves, 2,438 goats & sheep, 1,769 cats, 236 monkeys, 1,230  birds, 319 rabbits///and 126 squirrels/donkeys/pigs/peacocks/parrots/eagles/horses/deer/bullocks/snakes/turkeys /owls/ducks/mongooses/turtles)                                                                                                     
  

MONTHLY (these figures are current!), we:

• Treat 800 to 1500 out-patients in the Clinic, most of whom are “owner dogs”.
• Give 1500 to 3000 treatments to in-patients, almost all of whom are homeless dogs.
  
• Go out on 40 to 70 emergency rescues.
• Perform 100 to 125 sterilizations.
  
• Give 130 to 250 anti-rabies injections.
  
• Place 8 to 20 puppies in good homes.
• Treat 100 to 200 animals other than dogs.

And now to my exchange with Vishwa... It came about because I was reading one of my Reports which said, "We give 1800 to 3000 treatments monthly to in-patients, almost all of whom are homeless dogs." The 1800 figure seemed a bit high. But it was still just a figure to me when I called Vishwa. He was at the Shelter and I told him my concern. So we went over the estimate.

I asked him how many in-patients we presently had. "180, Sir."

• "Okay...How often do they get bathed?" Amazingly enough, every dog and puppy is bathed once every 10 days."So Vishwa, that means that each of the 180 is bathed three times a month, and we give 540 baths a month?"  "Yes Sir."
• We have 20 dogs who get injections every other day. That's 20x15 injections a month, or 300 treatments.
• We have 20 dogs who get a pill once a week. That's 20x4 pills a month, or 80 treatments.
• We have 20 dogs who get lotion applied every 4 days. That's 7 lotion applications a month, or 20x7 treatments.
• We have 2 adult dogs with broken backs who get spinal injections once a week. That's 2x4 injections, or 8 treatments a month.
• We have 5 puppies with broken backs, They get spinal injections every other day...and massages every day. So each month they're EACH getting 15 injections and 30 massages, or 45 treatments. That's 5x45 or 225 treatments a month.
• We have 2 blind dogs who get eye drops every day or 2x30, or 60 treatments a month.

I asked him how we kept track. "They have numbers, sir."

I was so moved at the care they were giving, I could barely talk.

We've been going for over 16 1/2 years now.

• Starting early on, I would give periodic talks to our Staff. I'd tell them it was vitally important for the animals to feel safe, cared for, and loved in order for deep healing to take place.
• And they were told that it wasn't just me that the Voiceless Ones got this love from. It wasn't just Vishwa. It wasn't just Dr. Raja. It was from them, the Staff. And theirs was the most important. Day after day. All day long.
• And no one could tell them how to do it. It had to be an expression of their own Hearts. Everyone does it differently, and they had to find their own way of relating. The animals can tell the difference between someone just "being nice" to them and when it's a real expression of relationship.
• The animals, the Voiceless Ones, have not been put into a setting where there are rules and things to do, ways to spend their days imposed by a "Superior Race". They are an active part of how things evolve. They don't only receive "affection and niceness". It ebbs and flows as part of a real relationship. And they are truly happy. They have lives full of choices.
• I was a part of this unfolding. But the other thing, above...of the baths...the extensive treatments...the injections...the sheer amount of physical caring...that is what blew me away. And I had nothing to do with it. That was an expression of Dr. Raja and Vishwa...thru the Staff. Even if a dog gets a sore foot, it's taken care of.
• Bless them. Bless all of them. Bless them. Bless them. Bless them. Surely God must be pleased with them...Om Namah Shivaya.

The Staff have been told again and again that they don't have to look busy when I come in. I can tell by the energy how things are going. And even tho' I may or may not interact with them, I'm very aware of each of them.

But when people visit the Shelter, they're often struck by how focused our guys are in the Work.

• How hard they work.
• How beautiful they are with the dogs.
• And how the dogs love them.

I am so, so Grateful...

In prior Reports I've written about rescue stories that Vishwa would pass on to me. And I believe that for many of you, it was your favorite part. But in this one I'm also going to cover the beautiful story of an emegency case from ten years ago that I recently came across. I wrote about it to Margot in Aust\ralia who is one of us...really one of us....So here goes the August 2013 letter.

"Hi dear Margot...So many things happening. When your precious Self gets here, you'll see what I mean. (Just realized that I'm going to put you on our Prayer List.)

About a week ago, late night, we got an emergency case brought in by a rickshaw driver (bless him). It was a small black puppy that he found lying on the side of the road. He was still alive, but in deep shock. He apparently had been attacked by an adult dog, and had several external wounds, none of them really serious. One, though, was on the throat and it crushed his trachea a little. He hovered between life and death a couple of hours. The big thing was the deep shock he was in.

I held him a long while. Kissed and stroked him. Chanted soft mantras into his ear. And whispered repeatedly, "I love you". Dr. Raja gave him an I.V. with an anti-biotic, a pain killer, and neurobion for nutrition, along with a steroid injection for the shock. He made it through. But for four days (we kept him in a basket in the clinic) his eyes held terror. He stayed in the corners with his head in the corner--any place he could hide and disappear. He couldn't respond to anyone...touch or gentle sounds. Ramesh gave him special attention throughout the night.

Yesterday afternoon we decided to put him in a pen with seven other young puppies. We were hoping that being only with small gentle creatures would bring him out of his Hell. But he stayed in corners with his head pointed in. And there was still terror in his eyes. Some of the puppies would come up and sniff him, but he was afraid. He was afraid if anyone touched him or gently talked to him. Dr. Raja was also treating him with two Bach Flower remedies (one for known fear; the other for unknown fear). I started becoming afraid that it was permanent.

But this morning, in the pen with the puppies, he came out of the corner and was sitting on a mattress. His eyes were softer, and he started looking around. And then he started responding to beloved PureHeart Sekar, one of our Staff.....Thank you, God.

Afternote...It took him a month or two to really get over the trauma. Then Vishwa found a beautiful forever home for him. He was very Happy. Om Namah Shivaya.
