Dear partners,

It is with joy that we provide you with progress of your support to our work as follows:

Working with 12 Volunteers across 7 states in Nigeria including FCT and in Freetown Sierraleone, for the 2021 Menstrual Hygiene Day, we organized 10 events, in 10 communities and 8 schools where we were able to reach out to 433 girls and 25 teachers with menstrual hygiene management awareness, reproductive health education and free sanitary pads.

Event outcomes

  1. In Zaria Kaduna state, one of our volunteers Aimee Chris have started an educational and health talks where she will be meeting sanitary hygiene need of 30 girls every month.
  2.  In Iseyin, Oyo state, Fatinikun Babatunde Tade have decided to start a menstrual hygiene session every two month, distributing menstrual products, and having a sanitary pad bank box in his community/ school.
  3. In Jos Plateau State, Ivhobe, have decided to set up a mentoring program to empower girls in skills acquisition, career development, social and general well-being.
  4.  In Muchia Kaduna state, Mercy Barka have formed clubs with the name ‘Salama’ meaning (PEACE) for boys and ‘Alheri (meaning GRACE) for girls to sustain the event in area of sanitizing and educating their peers and friends.

Success stories

A schoolgirl from Muchia community said, “Whenever I menstruate, I put pieces/cloth and I don’t remove it till the next day and when I washed the pieces/ cloth, I dry them in the room because I don’t want boys/men to see them. This event has taught me a lot about menstrual hygiene maintenance in this aspect and other areas”.

“I was of the opinion that the use of sanitary pad affects women ability to give birth, but after this event my myth and negative norms surrounding using of sanitary pad has changed and I will also educate others about this. Thank you so much for this educative event.”  Says a participant from Freetown, Sieera Leone.

A girl from Ekunle High School Oyo state said, “Before now, I cannot accurately calculate my menstrual circle to know my menstrual, ovulation days and my free days but after this event, I can do that accurately and this will help me get prepare for my menstrual days psychologically and materially”.

All this was possible because of the generous donation of you, our donors.

THANK YOU BIG

From all of us at Girls Education Mission International.
