Hope and Dignity for Goma’s Orphans

1. Background and Rationale

The city of Goma, deeply affected by years of conflict, is home to a large number of orphaned children living in extreme vulnerability. Orphanages play an essential role, yet their limited resources make it difficult to meet all the basic needs of these children—especially clothing.
Proper clothing is not only a physical necessity; it contributes to self-esteem, confidence, and a child’s ability to integrate socially. This is the foundation on which this project was created.

2. Problem Statement

Many orphaned children in Goma lack adequate clothing. This often-overlooked issue affects their dignity, their confidence, and their ability to envision a positive future. Although orphanages remain committed, they do not have sufficient means to provide every child with the essentials.

3. General Objective

To strengthen the dignity and self-esteem of orphans in Goma by providing them with appropriate clothing, while supporting orphanages in improving their essential services.

4. Specific Objectives

• Provide decent clothing to vulnerable children.
• Contribute to the personal and social development of orphans.
• Support orphanages by reducing the pressure caused by limited resources.
• Establish a learning framework through the identification of trainers and learners for upcoming project activities.

5. Achievements to Date

Thanks to the generosity of donors, we have already:

• Distributed essential food packages;
• Provided emergency clothing to the most vulnerable children;
• Launched the identification phase for trainers and learners;
• Strengthened collaboration with GlobalGiving, bringing us significantly closer to our goal.

6. Financial Progress

Through this collaboration, we are confident that we will reach the remaining amount and officially launch project activities in November 2025.

• Finalize the selection of trainers and beneficiaries;

• Reinforce cooperation with orphanages to expand the project’s impact;
• Plan additional interventions depending on remaining funds (education, psychosocial support, life-skills workshops).
