Families Begin Their Journey Out of Extreme Poverty - Thanks to You
Thank you for your generous support for families in Beyond Borders’ Family Graduation Program. I am so grateful for your accompaniment of them on their journey out of extreme poverty.
Over the next 24 months they will work extremely hard to begin earning money and start a savings account; to bring home any children they've sent away and to keep all their children healthy, fed, and in school; and, to repair or build a new home and sanitary latrine.
A Challenging Journey Ahead
Their journey will be challenging. They will likely face unforeseen trials. Through it all, your generous support will give them the opportunity and the encouragement they'll need to overcome any obstacles and to lift themselves and their children out of extreme poverty.
Thank you again for your extraordinary solidarity with them during this difficult time in Haiti. You are making their journey out of extreme poverty possible.
Your Generosity Provides Donkeys and Goats and Chickens, Oh My!
I am happy to share that, thanks to supporters like you, in January the Family Graduation Program really began to ramp up!
Families began receiving the animals they will raise, breed, and sell as part of their journey out of extreme poverty. Goats and donkeys were distributed, with more animals like chickens and pigs to be distributed later.
Families also began receiving water filters and case managers began making weekly visits to each family. A program nurse was also contracted to work with families to address any health issues, including children suffering from malnutrition.
The distribution of weekly cash stipends began and a Village Savings and Loan Association project officer was recruited to support families with the creation of branches in their communities.
Thank you for making all of this possible for families!
Your Generous Support is Keeping Families in Haiti Healthy.
Your generosity and solidarity is keeping families healthy throughout the 24-month Family Graduation Program by ensuing access to health care when they need it with visits from a program nurse and mobile clinics.
The program nurse treats children and parents for a variety of illnesses and conditions like high blood pressure, malaria, diarrhea, and malnutrition. The care she provides keeps families healthy, ensuring parents can continue working and earning a living and their children can stay in school.
Your generosity also supports training in basic hygiene for families, the construction of a sanitary latrine and the installation of a water filter at home.
This is the kind of care, concern, and close accompaniment -- made possible for all 160 families in this cohort thanks to supporters like you -- that's behind the 97 percent graduation rate.
Thank you again for standing in solidarity with the families during this difficult time in Haiti.
Your Generous Support Made Even More Work With Families Possible
Here’s a look at some of the other work with families that your support helped make possible this past quarter:
