Tahlia had been emailing with a Pathways' advocate in the dark, in the middle of the night, for months while her abuser was asleep. Ever since he began working from home due to the pandemic the abuse escalated. She felt like she was walking on eggshells all the time. Something as small as forgetting to turn off the light would send him into a scary rage. He would scream, punch the wall next to her, and call her names.
Even though Tahlia was just across the US border in Canada, covid travel restrictions prevented her from escaping home. She felt like she may as well have been on the other side of the world. Tahlia was afraid, exhausted, and distraught. A Pathways’ advocate was her only critical lifeline for ongoing support and hope.
Recently, with borders opening, our advocate was able to help Tahlia devise an escape plan and she was able to flee back home to safety in the USA. Without donors like you such critical, confidential email support, that often lasts for months, would not be possible to help victims in their darkest hour. Thank you for caring.
