Our crisis email continues to be a critical lifeline for victims moving tnto 2022. Stephanie is one such woman who has suffered with abuse at the hands of her husband for years. Being on lock-down with him during the pandemic, alone and isolated in Portugal, has been unbearable.
Being able to email with our crisis advocate Kate has been Stephanie's only life-line of communication with someone she could confide in. She was afraid and too ashamed to tell her mother or her friends about the abuse. At times, she felt she may not make it home alive.
When travel restrictions were lifted earlier this year, Kate was able to formulate a plan to help Stephanie escape. Stephanie knew that when someone leaves their abuser it is very dangerous. That is when the abuser feels they have lost control and the possibility of lethality is highest.
Kate worked with Stephanie to help her every step of the way, virtually holding her hand through the entire trip. Stephanie is now back in the USA in a battered women's shelter as she puts her life back together.
Without your support on this project we would not be able to provide services to victims like Stephanie.
Thank you so much for your belief in our mission!
