In Maha's first email to us, it was clear that she was in danger. Her husband was a very violent man and she was afraid of him. As a modern Muslim woman, she could not accept the abuse of her husband, but she felt he might kill her if she tried to leave. She was not wrong. Many domestic violence fatalities occur while the victim is trying to leave, or after they have left.
Safety planning with our crisis email advocate was critical to her well-being as she planned to successfully free herself of the abuse and get back home to the safety of her family in the USA.
Because of donors like you supporting this project, we are able to help victims like Maha through our crisis email who have nowhere else to turn.
We are happy to report that Maha has successfully escaped her abuser. She feels much safer being back in the USA but still faces many challenges. Thank you!
