CENTER MUST BE THE LASTEST RESORT IN PLACING CHILD

By Chetra Im | Project Leader

Child intervened by local authority.
Child intervened by local authority.

A 2-year-old girl forced to be placing in the center for the need of a temporary care as the child being abused and ignored by her grandparents, causing the child to suffer while her mother(she is a 17-year-old mother, who was sexual abused and violented by the stepfather) has to go to vocational training for six months in Siem Reap province. The Department of Social Affairs Veterans and Youth Rehabilitation has contacted Mlup Russey urgently to cooperate in setting up an Emergency Foster Care (EFC family) for the child victims and a safety place for a short period to help the mother get a 6-month professional embellishment training for personal development and able to survive a better life and take care of her daughter after graduation.

Before coming to stay in the EFC family, the child was regularly subjected to violence by their grandparents, inadequate nutrition, poor hygiene and unhealthy. But after receiving warmth-care and love from the EFC family and relevant authorities, the child is now healthy, well-developed, and safe. This is only one example of the numerous instances in which Mlup Russey works to strengthen the situations and parenting abilities of families with vulnerable children, including the improvement of their standard of living. All of these aim to prevent child separation from their families and to support family-based care as an alternative to residential care, which is the last resort.
