Summary

In Korea, many young people who have grown up without parental care-living in residential facilities or foster homes-must leave the system and face adulthood alone at just 18. ChorogUsan for Children stands by these care leavers, providing first-home essentials, counseling, mentoring, and emotional support so they can build safe, stable, and hopeful futures.

Challenge

In Korea, many young people leaving residential or foster care must start adult life alone at 18. Without family support, they face loneliness, housing insecurity, and the burden of paying for food, rent, and daily essentials. Their mental health is also at risk: 46.5% of care leavers said they had thought about suicide, while support workers are responsible for too many young people to provide close care.

Solution

Through ChorogUsan for Children, this project will help care leavers with practical and emotional support at the moment they need it most. It will provide essentials, food and living support, education or job training, housing assistance, mentoring, and psychological counseling. With trusted guidance and stable support, young people can begin independent life more safely, confidently, and with hope.

Long-Term Impact

With timely support, care leavers can stay housed, continue school or training, protect their mental health, and move toward stable work. Over time, this project can reduce isolation and crisis, helping young people build independent and hopeful lives. It can also create a ripple effect, as supported care leavers grow into confident adults who encourage and guide others in Korea.
