Martynas, recovering from retinoblastoma (a malignant tumor of the eye), though still very small, has come a long way in the disease. Talking to the boy’s mother, I realized that the mood is not yet joyful and the child will continue the treatment, which may still take some time. We always wish the best treatment results and think that Martynas will recover, like other children in the care of the foundation. We understand that travel fatigue, endless visits to doctors, long waits for improvement weaken hope and strength. 

Meanwhile, Martynas runs, feels good, and grows.

We share the message of Martin's mother's last trip to the Lausanne Clinic of Children's Diseases in Switzerland:

"Hello,

It didn’t take long for me to keep writing how the last trip went. But about everything from the beginning.

We had received a visit by an earlier date but had to be delayed as plane and ferry tickets were sold out.

Currently, only part of the planes have been renewed, so we travel from Lithuania to Switzerland and back with transfers. But at least on the same day, we’re in the place, not when we had to travel by car.

The trips went smoothly without any problems, I just didn’t expect such a blank image at the airports. Some kind of surreal image when empty and closed everywhere, as if after an apocalypse.

The next day, upon arrival, we performed a coranovirus test on Martin, which was negative and was scheduled for a visit. The results after the last procedure are unsatisfactory. The gray spot on the cancer cells remained but did not expand. In addition, new foci of tumors were again observed in the vitreous of the eye. To destroy the latter, the chemistry was injected directly into the eyeball. Additional intraarterial chemotherapy has not been performed by physicians, but it is very likely that it will need to be performed at the next visit. We will have to travel again without a return ticket because we are not sure what procedures and when will be performed for Martynas. It all depends on what the doctors will find during the next visit.

The mood is not great. Sometimes it seems that all the results we have achieved in almost two years of treatment are rapidly disappearing and going back to the beginning. But we know there is no other way.

The next trip is scheduled for next week.
