Little Gustas plan today looks bigger than the boy himself. But I do know for sure that children do not doubt their plans, whatever they may be. I have no doubt that the plan to overcome a rare oncological (eye malignancy - retinoblastoma) disease will certainly succeed.
The baby has already completed the fifth treatment trip and, despite all the accompanying travel and treatment challenges, is growing and strengthening rapidly. Gusto’s mom and dad carefully count the boy’s experience, rejoice at each of his accomplishments, and send us all a detailed letter from the last trip:
"On Friday, a few minutes after midnight, we landed at the illuminated Vilnius Airport (we returned from Gusto 5th treatment visit to Lausanne). In the right eye, not all the diffusely distributed tumor seeds detected during the 4th visit disappeared, and the buds of the newly formed tumors were found, so intraarterial chemotherapy was continued with a combination of two chemotherapeutic drugs. two anesthesia Gustas endured well, the recovery from anesthesia was not accompanied by extremely strong incessant crying, so the mood of the two of them with Gustas was joyful despite the difficult time of the treatment procedures.
This time during the trip, a carousel of numbers, dates, times (probably due to the fact that Gustas turned 8 months old on the first day of treatment assigned during this visit) and the amplitude of human strength, possibilities and patience. I wondered how much of everything in our lives had happened since the diagnosis of the disease (Gustas was only two months old at the time). At present, Gustas is an 8-month-old "guy" who has overcome 20 flights, visited 7 airports (Vilnius, Frankfurt, Copenhagen, Brussels, Warsaw, Geneva, Zurich), spent an average of 80 hours in the air, endured 12 anesthetics, and suffered 11 sampling. from the nasopharynx for a study of Covid-19 disease, having spent 48 days (such a total duration of visits) in Switzerland and heroically enduring countless procedures for blood sampling, eye drops, and the administration of less "tasty" medications. around to know, to explore, to touch, to SEE ... We hope that we will continue to succeed in overcoming tumors in small steps, which, when renewed, constantly remind us of our malignancy and regain / acquire / keep the gift of sight. even greater layers of patience, self-awareness, reminds of the fragility of life and provides an opportunity to with the help of oxlo, even greater and brighter light in Gusto eyes.
