Every time I go to the oncology department of the Kaunas Clinic Children's Hospital, I keep discovering new children.
Most of the time, they and their parents are filled with anxiety, uncertainty with many questions and one of the most important - will my child recover?
That day, when I visited the department, little Elzbieta was hiding in her mother's arms, welcoming each new guest she met with fear and tears in her eyes.
The beginning of the disease is always accompanied by fear until the children get used to the treatment procedures, until the faces of the nurses and doctors become recognizable, until a sense of security is discovered and created in the tiny ward, because this is where every day of a different, long-term life begins.
During the treatment period, both parents are important for the child's safety and peace of mind. This is especially important when the child is still very small.
Little Elizabeth feels safe when both parents are around. The girl is afraid of any stranger, so both parents take turns taking care of the girl, because one of the parents also needs to go to the store, the pharmacy, rest, consult about her daughter's care and healing.
Let's give the opportunity for both of Elzbieta's parents to be near their sick daughter, let's help cover the cost of the rented house, so that dad has a safe overnight stay in a foreign city, and Elzbieta can feel safe and calm in the arms of both parents.
