This animal welfare education project is run by the Evergreen Center for Sustainable Development for migrant children. Mature curricula have been implemented in 6 community service centers, and the project plans to expand to 10 additional community centers within a one-year cycle, with a fundraising target of 20,000 US dollars (2,000 US dollars per center) for teaching materials, field activity supplies and training for center managers.
Migrant children lack systematic science education about animals and nature, resulting in frequent acts of disturbing or harming stray cats, dogs, wild birds, hedgehogs and barn swallows. Center managers lack standardized teaching resources for animal welfare education. Additionally, children fail to recognize how urbanization and climate change threaten the survival of small local wildlife.
A three-pronged approach: 1) General courses - interactive classes on companion animal care, stray rescue, and local wildlife protection. 2) Community field research - children observe wildlife outdoors, document animal conditions, and study how human activity and climate change affect habitats, compiling observation reports. 3) Center manager training - equip supervisors of the 10 new centers to independently deliver animal welfare lessons, with full teaching and survey kits provided.
1. Over 85% of migrant children acquire animal protection knowledge and stop harming small animals. 2. Managers at all 10 centers can independently deliver animal life education. 3. Children encourage families to care for pets responsibly, building a wildlife-friendly community with richer biodiversity. 4. Over 70% of children understand how climate change affects local wildlife, forming basic ecological awareness.
