By Dr. Ali Khosroabadi | Nepal Team Leader
I had the incredible opportunity to lead the smallest foot and ankle team ever to visit Nepal. Our team embarked on a mission to provide crucial care and assistance to those in need. In just one day, we successfully screened a remarkable number of 103 patients. It was an intense and rewarding experience to assess and identify foot and ankle deformities in both children and adults.
Over the course of the next few days, we dedicated ourselves to performing surgeries on 42 patients. With a primary focus on children who suffered from major foot and ankle deformities, including neglected trauma and clubfoot, we aimed to bring about positive transformations in their lives. Witnessing the joy and improved mobility that these surgeries brought to the children was an incredible source of motivation for our team.
During our stay, we also took the opportunity to express our gratitude and appreciation to the exceptional staff at the Nepal Orthopedic Hospital, who assisted us throughout our mission. As the team leader, I organized a special dinner and invited the entire hospital staff. It was a moment of camaraderie and celebration as we acknowledged their unwavering support and recognized their integral role in our efforts.
Being the team leader of the Healing the Children Nepal team for the past 9 years, this trip held a significant place in my heart. Due to the unfortunate circumstances brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic, we had been unable to visit Nepal for a considerable amount of time. Thus, this journey was long overdue and carried a profound sense of fulfillment.
I am deeply grateful to the Nepal Orthopedic Hospital for their consistent hospitality in accommodating our team and providing us with the necessary resources to carry out our mission. Their partnership and dedication to improving the lives of those in need have been invaluable throughout the years. Together, as a team, we have made a meaningful impact on countless lives, and I look forward to continuing this journey of healing and compassion in the years to come.
Thanks again - Namate!
