Meet Winnie, she is 12 years old. She completed her primary level education at Imbaseni Primary School. She joined our Primary School English Tuition Program in September 2021. Winnie says, “I like this program, I am being taught a few important subjects that will help me in secondary school.” Winnie has improved her English, she can now read and write in English and read books from the E-readers on her own. She heard about the program from her teachers and fellow graduates. The primary program this year included other training which aimed at preparing all the beneficiaries to join secondary school. They are taught Mathematics, English, and technology through E-readers. These are the major and basic subjects that when a student understands, it becomes easier to learn all the secondary school subjects. We successfully trained the students on reproductive health topics. Since most of them are at the adolescent age, body changes and growth are expected to occur. They were taught things such as:
We also included a topic on Climate and environmental issues to ensure that they understand the importance of keeping the environment clean while at Jifundishe, at home, and in their schools. Thus, they were taught things such as:
All the primary school students understand the importance of taking care of their environment and have practiced planting trees around Jifundishe. They have also participated in debates about crosscutting issues in our country. This has helped them improve in spelling English words. They have watched different educational films and played educational games and all these activities have helped broaden their knowledge in different things and enabled us to maintain attendance and retention rates since the beginning of the program to date.
Generally, The Primary School English Tuition Program this year has been a success for the beneficiaries and Jifundishe. We thank all our donors for their contribution which led to the success of programs operating at Jifundishe Free Library.
