Jifundishe Free Library: The Backbone of Our Programs
The Jifundishe Free Library continues to be the foundation upon which all our programs are built. More than just a space for books, it has become a vibrant hub for learning, innovation, and opportunity within the community. Over the years, the library has provided an entry point for thousands of children, youth, and adults to access knowledge and skills that have transformed their lives.
Independent Study Program (ISP):
One of our proudest achievements linked to the library is the Independent Study Program. Each year, hundreds of young people who are unable to attend formal secondary school due to financial or social barriers come to the library to study. With access to textbooks, past papers, and a quiet environment, these students consistently achieve remarkable exam results. This year alone, the Advanced Class achieved a 97% pass rate—a powerful example of how a free and open space for learning can transform futures.
Pathways to Higher Education:
The library has played a crucial role in guiding students from rural backgrounds toward university and college opportunities. Many of our graduates, once regular library users, are now enrolled in government universities or professional colleges, some even pursuing health, law, social work, transport and logistics, ICT, and teaching careers. The library not only provides resources but also mentorship, application support, and access to computers for university and loan applications.
Vocational and Skills Development:
Beyond academics, the library hosts computer classes, vocational training(sewing and designing), and community workshops. Women and youth who had little exposure to technology now confidently use computers for research, communication, and even small business development. This exposure has opened doors to new livelihoods and increased community resilience.
Community Empowerment:
The Jifundishe Free Library has also become a gathering place for parents, teachers, and community leaders. Through seminars, reading groups, and civic education sessions, the library has strengthened community connections and encouraged a culture of lifelong learning.
A Legacy of Transformation:
Perhaps the most important success story is how the library has shifted mindsets. In a rural area where many once believed higher education was out of reach, the library has created a culture of possibility. Today, parents encourage children to dream bigger, and students see the library as the bridge between their current circumstances and a brighter future.
The Jifundishe Free Library is not just a building — it is a living symbol of opportunity, equity, and transformation. It remains the backbone of all our programs and the starting point of countless success stories.
