Dear Friend,
On behalf of all our staff and patients, thank you for your generous giving to Partners In Health! We are so grateful for your partnership and commitment to our mission.
Unfortunately, cholera remains prevalent in Haiti. In late October, Hurricane Melissa hit the country, causing flooding, fatalities, and displacing many families primarily in the southern part of Haiti. Because flooding increases the risk of waterborne illnesses, like cholera, Zanmi Lasante (ZL), as PIH is known in Haiti, has been monitoring for cases. Furthermore, we will continue to care for our patients experiencing cholera symptoms.
The ZL network, located in central Haiti, was not impacted by the storm. Although its direct operations are limited to its established service areas, the organization has historically supported the Ministry of Health during national emergencies. However, ongoing violence currently makes it difficult for ZL to assist beyond its current network. At this time, we are not able to share more detailed updates due to the political and social instability.
Our highest priority remains the safety and well-being of our staff and patients. We are closely tracking the evolving situation and working with ZL leadership, local authorities, and partners on next steps.
PIH's sustained investments in health care infrastructure allow us to weather crises and continue supporting patients in Haiti during these critical times. Your giving makes this possible. Thank you for partnering with us in this work.
In Solidarity,
Partners In Health
