Dear Friend,
On behalf of all our staff and patients, thank you for your generous giving to Partners In Health in support of our work fighting cholera in Haiti. We are so grateful for your partnership and commitment to our mission.
Cholera continues to be a threat in Haiti. This is exacerbated by the ongoing violence and instability facing the country, which have caused supply chain disruptions, displacement, and the closure of medical facilities. Furthermore, fuel shortages, violence, and unpredictable roadblocks restrict the team’s movement. Our logistics and supply chain teams are adapting to and working around these new and changing threats.
With your support, Zanmi Lasante (ZL), PIH’s sister organization In Haiti, has been able to distribute treatment, typically an oral rehydration solution, to hundreds of patients. This treatment is very successful – less than 1 percent of cholera patients die when they’re rehydrated quickly. Additionally, ZL has been able to implement a coordinated vaccination campaign.
At this time, we have decided to close our cholera-specific project on GlobalGiving, though by no means will be ending our work fighting cholera in Haiti. In order to be adaptive to the emergencies that come our way, we are prioritizing unrestricted fundraising for our care delivery site in Haiti. Unrestricted investments will ensure PIH can weather the current global health funding upheaval, prepare for future crises, and create systemic change to advance health equity. Flexible donations enable us to continually refine our activities to protect our patients’ fundamental right to health amidst the changing health and security landscape in Haiti. This will include cholera treatment and vaccination, among other essential programs.
Your giving has made it possible to provide lifesaving care during these critical times. Thank you for partnering with us.
In Solidarity,
Partners In Health
