Rescues, Checkups & Trainings

By Michael Posch | Project Leader

Rescue
Rescue

The last three months have been very busy.

What happened?

Rescues

We rescued 5 sea turtles that were injured. 3 of them we could help immediately, the 2 others needed to go to the vet for surgeries. Both of them had a hook and fishing line in their cloaca which needed to be removed. After 3 days at the vet they have been brought back to the big blue sea.

Unfortunately we also had to deal with two dead turtles. One drowned in a fishing net, the other one was hit by a boat.

New Headquarter

We opened our new HQ in the middle of Willemstad, the captiol city of Curacao. Finally we have a place were we can meet, train and educate.

New volunteers

Thanks to a social media campaign we managed to find 15 new volunteers. Each and everyone was trained both in and outdoors. Now they are prepared for their first field work sessions with live turtles that already started.

Sick turtles

We started our rescue & rehab program with sick turtles that we find around the island. They suffer of Fibropapillomatosis, a disease that causes tumors at their soft skin parts. These turtles need both time and cost consuming surgeries and care, as they need to stay about 6 months with us.

We keep on fighting. For the oceans. For the turtles.
