Our summer tour is probably the largest nonprofit information campaign in Sweden, we visit festivals, markets and fairs all over the country to spread awareness about the cruelty towards animals in our society and shape the opinions of the people that we meet.
Animals are like people, living, sentient beings with interests and needs that must be satisfied. However, animal exploitation and cruelty towards animals is widespread in our society. The food industry is the area where the greatest number of animals is used, either in the production of food or to become food themselves. Each year around 100 million animals are killed in the Swedish food industry. Animals are also suffering in other areas such as animal experiments and fur farming.
Our summer tour is probably the largest nonprofit information campaign in Sweden. We visit festivals, markets and fairs all over the country to spread awareness about the cruelty towards animals in our society and shape the opinions of the thousands of people that we meet. Djurens Ratt is dependent on voluntary support in order to be able to help animals. More funds to our summer tour means a possibility to visit more places, print more information material and speak to even more people.
Djurens Ratt, founded in 1882, is the largest animal rights organization in Sweden and conducts animal rights advocacy work vis-a-vis parliamentary politicians, municipal politicians, the authorities, EU politicians, institutions and companies. Changes in legislation are needed, but this requires more knowledge and a change of opinions for a majority of citizens. Through spreading awareness and mobilizing more people in our campaigns we can change the way our society treats animals.
