Update from Djurens Ratts summer tour!
On January 17 Djurens Ratt visited the Swedish Minister of Agriculture, Sven-Eric Bucht, along with three other animal welfare organizations. The meeting was on account of the critized changes in animal welfare prescriptions by the Swedish Board of Agriculture. The meeting started with handing over 127 702 signatures for improved animal welfare for pigs.
The majority of the collected names came from Djurens Ratts campaigns for pigs, and among them 9 447 signatures were collected during the summer tour 2017!
Handing over more than 100 000 signatures is a great manifestation and shows strong engagement for improved animal welfare for pigs. Djurens Ratts work with the petition during the summer tour now shows concrete results by influencing politicians and this accomplishment is an important step for the animals. The summer tour is a part of the campaign work of Djurens Ratt and we will continue doing important activities for animal rights with the summer tour of 2018.
With that said, we leave 2017 behind and shift our focus to the upcoming summer tour, which is the 13th summer tour for Djurens Ratt. We have a lot of work ahead and there is much to be done before the first tour stop in June. Currently we are planning for campaign strategies and which places to visit this summer. Each summer we visit more than 70 places and these include different festivals, markets and fairs. During these tour stops we work with a specific campaign that is unique every year and that we believe will be efficient in our work for animal rights.
Before ending this report we want to take the opportunity and thank all of you who have donated to our project at Global Giving. With your help we will have the possibility to make this year’s summer tour an even bigger project. With more resources we will go to more places, print more materials and engage more people to take stand for animal rights.
