Halfway there
The work with our summer tour is now halfway through and we are thankful for the meetings, conversations and enthusiasm we have been part of so far. We have visited more than 45 tour stops throughout Sweden and before the tour is over we have another 25 stops to go. Visiting a lot of places and talking to people face to face is the basic idea of the summer tour and our way to spread the message and inspire people towards a cruelty free lifestyle. By talking to people we can influence them towards personal changes, but also towards taking a stand for political issues in animal welfare.
Almedalen - putting animals on the political agenda
One of our big tour stops was the Almedalen Week at the start of July. Almedalen is an annual event and important forum in Swedish politics where representatives of the major political parties join and there are seminars, speeches and other political activities. Djurens Rätt has been a part of Almedalen since 2010 and this year we were 9 representatives from the organization. We had a lot of visitors stopping by our tent and many chose to become members and to give a Fur Free Pledge (Pälslöftet). We also arranged a veggie mingle with vegan food and talks with politicians and veggie companies. Being a part of Almedalen is important and we ensure that the animal’s voices are heard in the political conversations.
8000 Fur Free Pledges so far!
Our focus during Almedalen and all of our tour stops is the issue regarding fur farming in Sweden. Unlike many other European countries Sweden still has fur farming, even though 8 out of 10 Swedes want to see a ban on this cruel industry. Every year, more than 1 million minks are killed to become fur products. People who meet Djurens Rätt during the summer tour can take a stand for the minks in Sweden by giving a fur free pledge. The fur free pledge means that one promises not to consume fur products and that you support Djurens Rätts work towards a ban on fur farming in Sweden. During the summer we have already collected around 8000 fur free pledges, which shows the strong opinion in the question.
Our next tour stops
Next month we will, among other stops, visit the Way out West festival, Euro Pride Stockholm, Euro Pride Gothenburg, Let’s make love great again festival and Statement festival. We will continue to work hard and raise awareness for the minks in Sweden.
Do you want to help us become a stronger voice for the animals? Donating to the summer tour means we can visit more places and talk to more people.
Together, we make a difference for the animals.
