By Iva Urbanek | Campaign coach, Djurens Ratt summer tour
This week is a crucial moment in the fight for the minks. During 2018 the Swedish Board of Agriculture has investigated the animal welfare situation for minks in the Swedish fur industry and the final report will be handed over to the Swedish government this Friday, January 11. During the time of the investigation, Djurens Rätt has worked with creating and strengthen the public opinion against fur farming with our campaign the Fur Free Pledge. Our goal is an end to mink farming and we hope that the investigation recommends the government to proceed with that action for the minks.
On Tuesday, January 15, Djurens Rätt will arrange a press event taking place outside the parliament building. Together with politicians and hopefully journalists we will call attention to the investigation and the issue. We will communicate the urgency of ending mink farming and the strong opinion among people in Sweden. Over 50 000 people so far have taken the Fur Free Pledge and 20 000 of them were during the summer tour. Now it is time to hear the investigation results and then see from what position we continue working for the minks. If you further want to read about how we are progressing, please check our website next week: www.djurensratt.se
We have worked hard for the minks this year and the summer tour has been an important way for us to spread the message about the issue. By meeting thousands of people we know that we make a difference. Talking with people is the summer tours number one activism strategy.
Now we leave 2018 behind and shift our focus to the upcoming summer, which will be the 14th summer tour. We have a lot of work ahead and there is much to be done before the first tour stop in June. Currently we are planning for campaign strategies and which places to visit this summer.
At last we want to thank all of you who have raised funds for our project at Global Giving. With more resources we will visit more places, print more materials and engage more people to take stand for animal rights.
If you want to make a difference with us, you can donate money for our summer tour. Thank you!
