An exciting Summer tour in the making!
2025 marks Djurens Rätt’s 20th year going on a Summer tour – and what an anniversary we are planning!
Every year since 2006, we have visited festivals, city events, and streets to inform and inspire citizens to make more animal friendly decisions in their everyday lives. We do this by emphasizing a campaign that highlights the animals that are the most prevalent and endure the most suffering. Previous years, the focus has been on pig farming and mink farming for fur.
The campaign of 2025: “Sweden’s most common bird”
For the past few years, we have highlighted turbo chicken farming and will continue this work in 2025, since they are still the prevalent and endure the most suffering in Sweden; more than 100 million turbo chickens are slaughtered anually, making them the vast majority of our chickens. Turbo chickens are separated from their mothers after hatching, live in crowded facilities for only 35 days until they are transported to a slaughterhouse for anpainfuldeath.
During its35-day life, achickenhas to grow from 40g to 2000g; a speed that causes vast health problems and agony. Additionally, chickens cannot perform any of their instinctive behaviours, such as poking and bathing in sand or soil. Instead, they poke at each other and in waste.
Approximately 5 million chickens die early due to health problems or during transport to the slaughterhouse.
The preparations for an efficient tour
There is much to be developed, organized, and coordinated before this huge undertaking. We also want to acknowledge our successful 20-year information effort.
Firstly, to create an engaging, productive, and effective campaign that will motivate thousands of people to take a stance for the animals, the project group meets regularly to develop interactive activities and powerful messages, as well as develop outreach strategies and explore new possibilities.
Secondly, we are ensuring that our amazing team of volunteers are getting educatedthrough updated material and in-person training and kick offs in Mamö, Gothenburg and Stockholm. Kick offs full of workshops and inspiring presentations.
Thirdly, this huge outreach effort could not run as smoothly as it is doing without tour coaches. We are now in the process of recruiting this year’s, and we will have three people working full time this Summer.
Thanks to your support, Djurens Rätt’s summer tour can keep creating change for the animals that are the most prevalent. Together we inspire more people to take a stand for animals!
