Expanding into Mountainlands: A New Chapter in Rhino Conservation

Care for Wild has reached an incredible milestone in our mission to protect South Africa’s rhinos. Our expansion into Mountainlands is the result of years of planning, investment, and unwavering dedication. With new fencing, ranger infrastructure, and cutting-edge monitoring technology, we are creating a secure, sustainable environment for rhinos and the broader ecosystem.

Our skilled rhino monitors and Mounted Unit are already on the ground, using a combination of experience, technology, and the invaluable support of horses to navigate the rugged terrain. This is just the beginning of a larger vision, and the knowledge gained over the past decade will be crucial in ensuring the success of this initiative.

Training the Next Generation of Protectors

Conservation is more than just protection—it’s about passing on knowledge. Our veteran rhino monitors, some of whom have been with us from the start, are mentoring new recruits, ensuring that expertise is shared and our mission continues for years to come. Hands-on training, like that led by our seasoned ranger "Crocodile," teaches newcomers how to identify and connect with individual rhinos—an essential skill for effective protection.

Enhancing Skills for Greater Impact

To increase efficiency and ensure safety, our rangers recently completed a specialized 4x4 training course, improving their ability to navigate challenging terrain while also preserving the longevity of our vehicles. Beyond fieldwork, we are also investing in their personal growth—providing financial literacy training to help them plan for their futures and support their families.

Thank You for Making This Possible

None of this would be possible without your generous support. Because of you, we are expanding rhino conservation, training dedicated protectors, and building a sustainable future for both wildlife and the people who safeguard it. Thank you for standing with us on this journey—we couldn’t do it without you.
