Rehabilitated rhinos are released into protected areas alongside other wildlife. The long-term success of our project relies on our ability to protect the growing rhino population at Care for Wild and conserve the biodiversity of the Greater Barberton Nature Reserve. Our security strategy integrates boots on the ground with cutting-edge technology built upon a scalable, robust framework that evolves alongside the growth of conservation areas and anti-poaching initiatives.
Protecting rhinos and their habitat from poaching is an ongoing challenge requiring vigilance and innovative strategies. Socio-economic pressures lead individuals toward criminal activities, with organised crime syndicates and poaching posing a significant threat. As our protected areas expand, so does the demand for additional rangers, ongoing training, technology, and resources. The continual costs associated with protection and anti-poaching efforts are substantial.
Care for Wild has a comprehensive and dynamic approach to security which includes advanced fence systems with strict access control, round-the-clock ranger patrols supported by a Mounted and K9 Unit, technological innovations such as AI collars, trap cameras, high-resolution surveillance cameras, ANPR cameras, and real-time tracking via the OPS Room and EarthRanger. Thermal optics and drones equipped with thermal imaging enhance nighttime operations. Technology supports boots on the ground.
Your support enables us to sustain our security measures, safeguarding rhinos and their habitat. By protecting these keystone species and preserving their environment, we contribute to the broader goal of biodiversity conservation. Together, we prevent the extinction of a species and ensure a future where rhinos thrive in their natural habitats, enriching ecosystems and benefiting local communities.
