Meet one of our incredible program beneficiaries

By Marijke Frantzen | Cheif Executive Officer

Dear Supporters,

We are thrilled to share an inspiring update on how your generosity is transforming lives in Ethiopia. Meet Ayalnesh, a resilient mother, wife, and entrepreneur who has embraced small-scale poultry farming to improve her family’s livelihood and nutrition.

Living in Addis Ababa with her husband, two children, and a nephew, Ayalnesh has faced significant challenges. Both she and her husband live with disabilities, making traditional employment opportunities scarce. For years, they relied on selling taper candles outside her local church and a small government safety net program for income. Despite their hard work, financial instability made it difficult to afford nutritious food, save money, or plan for the future.

Thanks to your support, Ayalnesh received training, starter chicks, and essential supplies to launch her small-scale poultry farm. She quickly applied her newfound knowledge in chicken management and product marketing, and the results have been transformative:

  • A Sustainable Source of Income
Ayalnesh now sells eggs within her community, generating a more stable and predictable income. In her first cycle, she earned approximately 1,000 ETB from egg sales, with over 50% reinvested in feed to sustain the flock.
  • Improved Family Nutrition
For the first time, her household has regular access to fresh eggs, significantly enriching their diet. Her children now enjoy protein-rich meals, helping to support their growth and well-being.
  • Increased Confidence and Social Empowerment
Beyond financial gains, poultry farming has boosted Ayalnesh’s confidence. She feels empowered to contribute more to household decisions and share her knowledge with others in her community who are eager to follow in her footsteps.

Your contributions have provided Ayalnesh with the tools improve the health and prosperity of her family. With continued support, we can expand this program to help more families achieve financial independence and food security.

Thank you for being a part of this journey. Your kindness is creating lasting change, one family at a time.

With gratitude,
The Kyeema Team.
