Abandoned Animals Saved From Euthanization

By Jessica Roberts | President

Times are tough for everyone, but with your support, we are still making a difference in the lives of stray animals in the community.

Let us introduce you to Kent, a really great guy who, unfortunately, wasn't wanted. He was taken to a veterinarian’s office as a stray. When he was scanned, no microchip was found. At that point the people that found him didn’t want to keep and asked that he just be euthanized. Thankfully the vet staff just took him in the back and called us.

Nobody ever came looking for him. When he was tested, Kent was found to be heartworm positive. This diagnosis would have sealed the fate of many animals due to the high cost of treatment, but we took him in and gave him a second chance. He has just finished his heartworm treatment and is a really wonderful guy, ready to find a new family.

Kent was just one of nine dogs that found themselves abandoned at local vet offices in the past few months and we are working to find forever homes for them all.

Marshmallow was adopted out from a shelter about two hours away from us. Within a few months, he was found running down the road. He had a microchip, but when the vet’s office called the owner to let them know he had been found, they said they didn't want him back. He is such a sweet guy  it’s awful that he could be thrown away like that. We took him in and found him a great home where he will be wanted and loved.

Sadly this is a common occurrence in the area we work in and without us, many of these animals that are abandoned would never know what it’s like to be loved.

We currently have just under 100 animals in our care right now and in the past three months, we have had 76 adoptions! Caring for them while we find homes is expensive though. We are very thankful that you support our work in a part of the country where we are the few trying to help so many. We wouldn’t be able to do this without your ongoing help.
