Hello once again!
Since our last update we posted here, things have gotten very busy at the rescue! We went from about 25 intakes for the whole year in early March, to more than 80 as of a few days ago… for anyone who knows what this time of year means for us, you'll understand that almost all of those intakes were young Amazons. Baby season 2022 has been overall a successful one, with just a few weeks of craziness throughout!
Something this season we were able to do, that we have never done before, was to successfully hatch to Amazon eggs. The eggs had been laid inside of an uncapped traffic light pole in the city of Azusa, and the traffic light had stopped working. A city representative called us, and we coordinated with some LA-based volunteers, and somehow we were able to safely remove the eggs. A volunteer kept them incubated for several weeks, and finally they hatched! They are currently our youngest babies of this season, and are still in the brooder being fed multiple times a day.
Thanks so much for your continued support via this platform! Thanks to you all, we have nearly completed another successful baby Amazon season.
