MATHS has been the focus of this Project throughout 2014. Enabled by your generous donation, Green Shoots staff have been supporting teachers and learners at Bongolethu Primary to reach the Project goal "Help South African children achieve in Maths". In Term 3 alone, there were 87 Online Maths lessons for the 9 classes and 368 Grade 4-6 learners. This term the Grade 4, 5 & 6 teachers, Mrs N Gcayiya, Mrs N Booi & Mr B Dlwathi, have been focussing on using the real-time feedback from the online lessons to prompt learners to improve the accuracy of their answers.
External and school exams are happening now in Term 4. These exams will help to measure the progress that learners have made over this year. The Principal, Mr Mlindazwe, said “The response showed by teachers is that of visible engagement and excitement which translates to passionate learner involvement. Learners are more actively involved with their mathematics calculations. Learners do not want to miss out on their computer session. We are awaiting to see if results will now improve.”
However this Project is about far more than just exam results. It is about allowing learners access to quality education, encouraging improved enthusiasm for studying and instilling a sense of pride in every learner about their achievements, no matter how small. Your support that has made a real difference at Bongolethu Primary School, thank you!
