We have some wonderful news to share in honor of K4AK’s 20th anniversary!
As our long time donors know, Kids 4 Afghan Kids began raising money in 1998 to help an impoverished, rural village in Afghanistan. Twenty years ago, in 2001, K4AK opened its first school with 165 children.
In 2001, many people in the village were skeptical of education in general, and opposed to educating girls, so only 20 of those first students were female. However, as the village began to understand the benefits of education, both support and demand for schooling grew, often surpassing K4AK’s ability to provide it.
Our school year runs spring to fall. Last fall, after classes let out for the winter, we started the construction of a second floor for our original school.
We are pleased to announce that the second story has been completed in time for the new school year. And, it even includes a more durable tin roof.
As you can see from the attendance at the dedication ceremony, the village has become strongly supportive of education in these past 20 years.
Over the years, the single school for 165 students has grown into a school for 2,500, half of whom are girls. Many of our graduates, both male and female, have gone on to attend college in Kabul and some have even graduated from prestigious European Universities. We couldn't be more pleased.
We also are happy to report that construction on our hospital has progressed! We look forward to sharing more pictures of it in the future.
Thank you to those of you who have donated this year, and those who have been supporting K4AK for many years. These are your accomplishments
