Over the last decade, years calm or tumultuous, Kids for Afghan Kids has existed as a consistent beacon of hope. When I first encountered K4AK at the age of eight, I learned the life-changing impact of direct action done "right through collaboration. KAK was an opportunity for me to learn about a whole different way of living, and raised my awareness of our American privileges. The connections that K4AK forms reinforces my belief that actions, large or small, have the potential to better lives, which we often forget in the cynical and individualistic worldview many of us adopt today. Especially now, Kids for Afghan Kids exemplifies to me the power of resistance to oppressive regimes through love, understanding, and humanity.
