As winter approaches our schools will begin final exams, graduation ceremonies, and closing for the winter. At the project we take a winter break instead of a summer break. Winters are too cold and harsh for students (who do not have proper attire) to walk to and from school, especially since many students walk 1-2 hours each way to get to school. We also have to conserve heating costs.
We are proud of all our graduates - and especially proud of our families who send their children 6 days a week to learn. We will celebrate 70 boys and 50 girls who will graduate from our high schools, and 4 girls who will graduate from nursing and midwifery in the capital. Our community values education and works hard to protect the project.
This will wrap up our 25th school year. Many obstacles have been overcome to continue to provide education, clean water, and health care in our rural village. We are grateful to all who have helped us on this journey. Our biggest challenge currently is funding. Over the years we have worked to get the project independent and self sustaining, however, the unstable political climate in country makes this challlenging. Our village is incredibly appreciative for all our partnership efforts and we look forward to continuing to find funding avenues. We welcome any contributions our supporters are willing to give.
