As the snow melts, school staff prepare for a new school year. This will be our 27th school year. Our project takes a winter recess to keep our students healthy and safe in the winter. Due to cold temperatures and the amount of snow in the area it is difficult for our students to safely walk to school. Our students do not have the proper winter clothing and boots to walk to school in the winter. It is also difficult to heat the classrooms.
Kids 4 Afghan Kids began with the ingenuity of a group of 6th graders, continuing over time with third grade classes and many volunteers. We continue to see new students join the project, and are always encouraged with former students who continue to volunteer with the project into their college years and beyond.
We are grateful to all our volunteers and donors! This project has made a significant impact in our village. With education, clean water, and health care we have empowered students with the ability to get a high school degree and some have continued on to higher education. We now have former students who have successfully passed the teacher exams and are teaching at the project. We have provided life saving vaccines to the entire village. Through education and midwifery we have greatly reduced maternity related deaths.
We look forward to continuing to educate children, provide health care, and provide clean water to the families in our village.
Thank you and I look forward to providing more updates as the school year begins.
