Background
Kamwokya and Kyebando are slum areas in the capital of Uganda and are faced by many challenges. This project aims to help graduating students from the Chusa School of Beauty with funding to start Salons offering hairdressing, styling, cosmetology and bridal services and will help the single mothers and girls to generate an income and leave poverty. These RISE Salons is run in partnership with Human Rights & Science (HR&S) and Action10.
Project update
Since the last update we have identified a location to set up the RISE Salon where the women will start working as soon as it is up and running. The salon is located a little bit outside the slum area. One of the women who was educated to be able to work in a salon (plaiting, braiding, weaving, styling and make-up as well as running a business etc.) is currently involved with the preparation of the salon. Her input and expert advice related to how everything can work in practice and what kind of equipment that is needed is invaluable to be able to run the business in the most efficient and effective way.
Thank you!
We are working to be able to launch the RISE Salons as soon as possible and we are grateful for your contributions to the project. Thank you!
