Background
Kamwokya and Kyebando are slum areas in the capital of Uganda and are faced by many challenges. This project aims to help graduating students from the Chusa School of Beauty with funding to start Salons offering hairdressing, styling, cosmetology and bridal services and will help the single mothers and girls to generate an income and leave poverty. These RISE Salons is run in partnership with Human Rights & Science (HR&S) and Action10.
Project update
In the previous project update we informed about our work to find and negotiate with local entrepreneurs to get the Salons up and running. Since then, we have been able to identify, discuss, and agree with a Salon manager in Uganda. After several meetings and interactions with the manager, we are positive about the collaboration opportunities going forward. This will hopefully enable us together with our partners to offer the girls and women in Uganda opportunities to gain an income. The Salon manager has agreed to give the girls and women from Kamwokya opportunities to work as trainees. Action10 will cover the costs during the trainee period and if the trainee is successful it can lead to an employment.
