Dear GlobalGivers,
We are in a uniquely difficult moment. Covid-19 has changed the personal, family and professional dynamics for all of us across the world. And one of the overlooked impacts of this crisis is violence against women.
Violence against women increases in every crisis. Today, 139 women and girls around the world are killed every day. Home, where officials are urging us to stay, can be the most dangerous place for many. During this time of unprecedented challenges presented by Covid-19, our resolve has only strengthened. So while our staff are currently following the national quarantine protocols, they are also hard at work preparing for our next phase of field work to protect the rights and safety of girls in Metlatónoc.
Upon the ending of quarantine, we plan to expand our program to reach three more communities in the mountains of Guerrero to end child marriage and protect the safety of girls there as well. In this time of increased violence against women and girls, we rely on your support. Will you help us help them?
Also, because good news is important in these moments, attached find a few photos from the International Day of Native Languages, which the communities invited us to celebrate with them in the mountains of Guerrero just before quarantine started.
With gratitude,
Shoshana and the whole Yo quiero Yo puedo team
