Dear GlobalGiver,
This crazy ride continues, and in the midst of it all, the communities of Metlatónoc, Guerrero are battling drought. As subsistence agricultural communities, this is a strong blow to their ability to ensure a basic income and to put food on the table to eat. At the same time, many of their family members who are migrant laborers have returned home in order to have a roof over their head. It also puts girls at new risk of being sold into marriage to bring immediate cash to their family.
In a divergence from our methodology, and in solidarity with the girls and communities of Metlatónoc, Guerrero, in June we began a special collection of food stuffs and have just delivered food baskets to 175 families, the baskets large enough to last each family for a full month. I am sending you here a number of photos from the deliveries.
We know that things are not easy, for each of you as individuals and for the communities we work side by side with each and every day, but we know that we can always do more, and so we rise to the challenge and support the communities in this unprecedented crisis. May hunger not be another challenge they must face nor a reason to sell their daughters into marriage.
Your support makes these types of pivots possible in our work, and we thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
With gratitude,
Shoshana
