Deaf-Blind Children in Goma

Project Context:

The project "Helping the Deaf-Blind with Educational Materials"aims to address the urgent educational needs of deaf-blind children in Goma, North Kivu, Democratic Republic of Congo. The Nguvu Yetu Center, dedicated to the education of deaf and disadvantaged children, faces challenges in providing quality education due to a lack of teaching materials specifically tailored to the needs of deaf-blind children. The school, while having opened its doors to deaf-blind children, faces significant challenges due to insufficient resources to meet the educational needs of this vulnerable population.

2. Project Objectives:

The main objective of the project is to provide specialized teaching materials to help deaf-blind children in Goma receive quality education. This includes educational resources in braille, tactile sign language, and other tools designed to help these children overcome the barriers posed by their disabilities.

Specific objectives include:
- Providing specialized educational materials (braille books, tactile cards, audio tools, etc.).
- Training teachers to effectively teach deaf-blind children.
- Raising awareness in the local community about the needs of this population.
- Promoting the inclusion of deaf-blind children in society.

3. Problem to Address:

Deaf-blind children in Goma face severe difficulties accessing education. The lack of specialized educational materials and insufficient teacher training makes teaching difficult. These children are often left behind and do not have access to the necessary resources to succeed in their education.

4. Project Description:

This project aims to provide specialized teaching materials for the deaf-blind children at the Nguvu Yetu Center. The main activities of the project include:
- Purchasing educational resources in braille and tactile sign language.
- Creating books, cards, and other teaching tools tailored to the needs of deaf-blind children.
- Training teachers to ensure these materials are effectively used.
- Implementing a community awareness program for local parents and the general public.

5. Estimated Budget:

The project has already raised 350 USD, which will be used to purchase some essential educational materials. However, this amount is insufficient to fully implement the project, and we plan to raise additional funds with the help of GlobalGiving. The estimated budget for the entire project is 12,000 USD, which will cover:
- The purchase of specialized educational materials.
- Teacher training programs.
- Logistical and administrative costs.

6. Expected Impact:

We expect tangible results in the following areas:
- Improved access to education for deaf-blind children through the provision of new educational materials.
- Enhanced teacher skills as teachers receive training on effective methods for teaching deaf-blind children.
- Greater inclusion of deaf-blind children in the local community.
- Increased awarenesswithin the community about the rights and needs of disabled individuals.

7. Collaboration with GlobalGiving:

Collaboration with GlobalGiving is crucial for the success of this project. Through this platform, we will gain access to an international network of donors, allowing us to fully fund the project and ensure its sustainability. With the support of GlobalGiving, we are confident that we will achieve our goal and provide vital resources to deaf-blind children in Goma.

8. Call to Action:

We appeal to donors to support this vital project for the deaf-blind children at the Nguvu Yetu Center. Your contribution will help provide essential educational resources and change the lives of these children by offering them a chance to learn, grow, and integrate into society.

9.Conclusion:

This project represents a pivotal step towards improving the education of deaf-blind children in Goma. With the support of GlobalGiving, we are confident that this project will help overcome the barriers these children face and provide them with a brighter future.
