Fundacion Bomberos: 10 years combating fires

By Rocio Rebagliati | International Community Referent

The past few months have been crucial in fighting against forest fires in Argentina. Fundación Bomberos focuses its efforts on creating a safer and more resilient community. It promotes good safety practices with volunteer firefighters from all over the country. It carries out awareness campaigns to prevent risks in the community.

We act as a bridge of collaboration between the community and firefighters regarding the culture of prevention. The Bridges of prevention” campaign was launched in 2021 and met the following objectives:

  • Make the population aware of forest fires in Argentina.
  • Promote good practices for fire prevention throughout the country.
  • Generate resources to support the work of volunteer firefighters during forest fires.

We still distribute forestry equipment to those affected by the fires in the province of Corrientes. At the same time, a survey and follow-up of the areas involved in the Provinces of Buenos Aires and Entre Ríos by the outbreaks initiated in the Delta and other regions are being carried out.

We are proud to announce the campaign has managed to assist more than 1,500 firefighters, estimating a distribution in 2022 of more than 5,700 new forestry tools to equip firefighters.

Our team keeps working hard to meet our goals and get volunteer firefighters the necessary resources, as we always have. In fact, on July 20th, 2022, Fundación Bomberos de Argentina celebrated a decade of work.

Besides the Bridges of Prevention Campaign, another campaign was launched called “Youth Behind the Wheel”. It is a meeting on road safety aimed at adolescents to create ambassadors of good traffic practices to collaborate with reducing accidents and developing a safer society.  Training is given by firefighters with experience in traffic accidents (as they are part of the services that are called to assist people who are victims of such accidents).

All these efforts wouldn´t have been possible without your collaboration. We thank you from the bottom of our hearts and hope to keep working together. There´s still much to do to prevent fires and control future outbreaks.
