Help train hundreds of single mothers in DR

AYUDA A FORMAR CIENTOS DE MADRES SOLTERAS EN REPÚBLICA DOMINICANA - SEPTIEMBRE 2021

Introducción

Este documento se elabora a partir de los resultados obtenidos en la implementación de nuestra estrategia de intervención 2021 y en respuesta a los corazones solidarios individuales y corporativos que han hecho aportes de cualquier tipo para que sigamos desarrollando la visión de este proyecto.

Dadas las condiciones atípicas que generó la Pandemia Covid-19, aunque se presentaron algunos escenarios presenciales; La mayoría de las acciones se apoyaron en herramientas virtuales. De esta forma se han desarrollado talleres y encuentros con los alumnos, charlas online y sesiones de trabajo a distancia.

Poco a poco hemos ideado restablecer el contacto físico, sin embargo, la integridad de las mujeres beneficiadas y el personal sigue siendo nuestra prioridad.

A pesar de esta situación, hemos avanzado mucho en el desarrollo de nuestro proyecto, especialmente en términos de infraestructura y desarrollo académico.

A continuación, presentamos un resumen de los avances en cada una de las iniciativas propuestas para este proyecto en particular.

1.1. Avances en infraestructura del Centro de Capacitación Técnica

Gracias a las diversas donaciones recibidas, y especialmente a una contribución especial de la empresa Airbandb a través de GlobalGiving, hemos podido iniciar la renovación de nuestro Centro de Formación Técnica FUNCOMAS.
En este sentido, hemos realizado importantes inversiones en la remodelación, adecuación y acondicionamiento de nuestras instalaciones para recibir a los estudiantes.

The space we have is not too large a location, but it has been very useful for our workshops. Once the current remodeling process is finished, our center will have a practice laboratory for beauty and aesthetics courses in general and a classroom with capacity for 20 students, fully equipped and air-conditioned.

1.2. Gender Equality Awareness

During the period June-August 2020 we have held 3 virtual conferences on Gender Equality, Civic Rights and Duties and with the participation of 160 women and young people. The purpose of these activities is to generate a positive impact on the problems of domestic violence and social discrimination of Dominican women through the awareness of the affected population.
These events have been well received by our community, thanks to the participation and hiring of highly trained professionals to offer these services. Especially psychologists, lawyers and social workers.

In addition, the support of our team of volunteers has been very valuable to help us incorporate the advantages of technology into our daily operation.

1.3. Support to decrease the spread of COVID-19

The reality of the Pandemic is still a reality that we must deal with. For this reason, we have spared no resources in continuing to support the efforts of our work team to reduce its incidence. In this sense, the following activities have been developed.
o 2 awareness talks for students, collaborators, volunteers and members of the community in general.

o Delivery of 80 packages with prevention and hygiene items to the entire community. These packages contain: disinfectant towels, antibacterial gel, soaps, mask packages and alcohol.

1.1. Crafts and recycling workshops.

Following all the safety and prevention protocols, we have continued the recycled crafts workshops, with the realization of our well-known decorative bottles. The bottles are made by our students using mostly recycled materials and then they are sold as a way to obtain resources for the foundation.

1.2. New Virtual Store

As a way to offer support to handicraft students and to expand the Foundation's products, we have developed an alliance with the Prosperanza Foundation by enrolling in their Virtual Stores project.

This initiative, which is still in the process of development, is intended for the students to be able to broaden the target audience to which they can sell the products made in our workshops. In this way, we help to generate new sources of income while offering a dignified and creative way to improve their personal talents.
