Two powerful earthquakes hit Southern Turkey on February 6, 2023, causing significant loss of life and leaving countless people without homes, injured, and deeply affected.
Amid the transition towards the enduring task of reconstruction, a fresh fundraising campaign, named Project CATE (Child Amputees of Turkiye Earthquake) has been initiated. Its core aim is to provide a fresh start for children impacted by the earthquake. Healthcare experts from both the United States and Turkey are joining forces to create a lasting medical support infrastructure for these young individuals. Within Turkey, this initiative is recognized as the Children Goodness Center Project or Çocuk Iyilik Merkezi Projesi, Projesi, which will ensure essential medical care for these children.
As part of the CATE project, 77 boys and 52 girls have already received the necessary prosthetic procedures, effectively addressing the prosthetic needs of a total of 129 children. Furthermore, 52 of our young beneficiaries have been welcomed into the scholarship program, a crucial facet of the CATE initiative. The assessment of additional children for inclusion in the scholarship program under the CATE project is an ongoing process, and we anticipate that over 150 more children will soon benefit from this program. We are delighted to announce that this scholarship program will provide sustained educational support for our children throughout their academic endeavors.
Within the scope of the CATE initiative, we are advancing with a deep understanding of the substantial need for prosthetic care, rehabilitation, and education among the children who have been impacted by the earthquake. We acknowledge the enormity of this demand, and we aspire to extend our assistance to a larger number of children gradually.
