Most people avoid thinking about death and even naming it can create fear. But for people living with advanced disease, silence does not ease suffering; compassionate, practical support does.
Why Palliative Care Matters
Palliative care meets this need by supporting people experiencing serious suffering from advanced disease, whether they are still receiving treatment, approaching the end of life, or supporting a loved one through illness.
Each year, more than 73 million patients and families need palliative care—yet too many never receive it.
Expanding Access
Despite its proven value, palliative care remains one of health care’s best kept secrets. That must change. More people need to understand what palliative care is, why it matters, and how it can transform the experience of serious illness.
Many organizations provide direct care to patients and families, but the Worldwide Hospice Palliative Care Alliance plays a rare and vital global role: advocating for palliative care to be included in national health systems, especially in low- and middle-income countries. By supporting palliative care champions and governments, we help turn isolated care into lasting system change. Your support does not reach just one patient; it helps open the door for millions to receive the care, comfort, and dignity they deserve.
