Summer is the Season of Hunger

The Stamp Out Hunger Drive
The Stamp Out Hunger Drive

Hunger is on everyone's mind during the holiday season, but for the millions of hungry children across the country, the summer months are a time of immense difficulty. Over 31 million children receive free or subsidized meals during the school day. For many, that is the only meals they have access to all day long. With no access to the subsidized meals, the millions of children that are home from school in the summer are forced to rely on food banks and pantries to find their next meal. This influx of need quickly depletes the food supply of hunger relief agencies in towns both big and small.

That's why at Move For Hunger, we ramp up our hunger relief efforts when the temperatures are on the rise. Our newest Real Estate partner, Prominent Properties Sotheby's International, held their first food drive across 11 offices in northern New Jersey with the goal of raising 1,000 lbs. Within one week they had already reached 1,000 lbs. and set their sights on a new goal of 5,000 lbs.

In May, 14 of our movers participated in the National Association of Letter Carriers annual "Stamp Out Hunger" food drive. Thanks to the generous efforts of our moving partners, they delivered over 400,000 lbs. of food to food banks across the US. The support of our movers saved the food banks from spending thousands of dollars on transportation costs, which means they can spend their money providing meals to the less fortuante, instead of using it on gas, insurance and trucks.

We also had our first district wide food drive in the school system of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, where 25 different schools and 17,000 students participated in a food drive that brought in over 25,000 lbs. of food for the local food pantry. Their efforts provided over 20,000 meals to the less fortunate of Oklahoma and thousands of young people got involved in the fight against hunger! Want to get your school involved? Contact us today!

It's been an incredibly busy first half of 2013, thanks to the generous support of our donors and partners we are proud to announce that the Move For Hunger network has delivered over 1,900,000 lbs. of food to food banks.
